About the studio

A small studio with a patient name

Stillwork makes a typing practice room and a plain field guide. We are a small studio, and we build our tools the way we would want to use them.

Where the name comes from

A still turns slow, controlled heat into something clearer. That is the whole idea behind Stillwork: steady conditions and patient work produce a cleaner result than force does.

The studio lives at liquor.dev. We kept that domain because it reads as a developer tool and a distillery at the same time, and the joke seemed worth keeping. We borrowed the still, not the bottle. Stillwork does not sell drinks, and nothing on these pages encourages drinking.

Who it is for

Stillwork is for people whose hands are busy most of the working day. That includes software engineers, technical writers, editors, students writing long essays, and anyone who has noticed that a steady, accurate line of text is worth more than a fast, careless one.

How we build things

The site is plain HTML, one stylesheet, and one script. There are no frameworks, no web fonts, no trackers, and no network requests. The practice run works in the browser from files on this site.

Every page is written to work with JavaScript turned off. The practice run says plainly when a timed test needs JavaScript, and the passage stays readable without it.

What we will not do

  • Ask you to create an account in order to keep your results.
  • Sell attention, or place advertising beside a passage you are trying to type.
  • Invent statistics to make a page sound more certain than the evidence allows.
  • Send what you type anywhere. Your text stays on the page in front of you.

How we write

We write the way we would like to be read: short, exact, and unhurried. We avoid hype, exclamation marks, and promises we cannot keep. If a number appears on this site, it is either your own input or a definition you can check for yourself.

Read the field guide or write to the studio.
